2007 was very exciting for us and I'd like to share just a few highlights with you. From recording my debut effort, the always fun Friday Night Jazz Series at the Carnegie Club, sharing the stage with Branford Marsalis, supporting charities to a NY premier of A Soul's Journey and so much more, the Mark Rapp Group enjoyed a very fruitful and creative year. Recorded and Mastered Debut Record
In early 2007, the time finally arrived when Mark Rapp was ready to properly document his songs and band. For years, Rapp has kept a low profile and slowly developed his music and artistry - much like an orchid, appearing dormant then one day it is in full bloom revealing an awesome display, open for everyones' enjoyment. Produced by Grammy Award winner Jason Olaine, mixed by celebrated hip-hop engineer "LB" Dorsey and mastered by the infamous Greg Calbi, we're very excited to share it with you in early 2008! DownBeat Magazine picked Mark Rapp as an emerging trumpeter to watch. Hailing Rapp as one of the Top 25 Emerging Trumpeters who are paving the way for Jazz's next innovations, DownBeat editor David French writes, "Rapp's five years in New Orleans instilled a love for the Crescent City tradition that colors his playing, though he is not afraid to use electronic effects... New Globe Theatre, Project Sunshine
At Project Sunshine's 2007 Fundraising Gala, the Mark Rapp Group joined by Telarc recording artist Tony DeSare performed and Saturday Night Live's Darrel Hammond MC'd. Joe's Pub Showcase, 9/11 A Soul's Journey, Friday Night Jazz and more...
Thanks to all of your support, we had an amazing sold out night at Joe's Pub. It was definitely a highlight for us! We also debuted my 90minute Jazz suite A Soul's Journey on September 11th to a full room and played a number of fun gigs in and around the city. 2008 JVC Newport Jazz Festival

Started in 1954 by jazz pianist George Wein, the Newport Jazz Festival was the first outdoor festival entirely devoted to the jazz idiom. In its 50 year reign, it continues to be the model for jazz festivals everywhere. The name Newport has become synonymous with the history of jazz. It has hosted the greatest giants, geniuses, and innovators this art form has known. |
